ABOUT US

I started my tertiary education at Stellenbosch University and completed a BA. Humanities and Honours degree in Psychology. I also completed a MA. Psychology by dissertation at Stellenbosch University and explored the field of Family Resilience. The title of my dissertation is "Affirming Communication and its association with Family Functioning'. I then moved to Port Elizabeth to complete a MA. Counselling Psychology degree at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University. I completed my internship at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University Community Clinic as well as the Centre for Student Counselling. 

I am currently a HPCSA-registered counselling psychologist in independent practice in Walmer, Port Elizabeth. I am fluent in English and Afrikaans. I provide adult and adolescent therapy, play therapy, scholastic and developmental assessments as well as career and professional development services. I particularly enjoy working with young people. I also lecture and supervise senior students on a part-time basis at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University. I tend to consider people holistically as they move through their life stages. I therefore not only focus on problem areas with my clients and students, but also on aspects of resilience and strength.

I work from a relationship-focused integrative approach where the collaborative relationship between the therapist and the client forms the foundation of therapy. I find that an integrative approach allows me to take into account the unique characteristics of every client and tailor the therapy to suit the client, as well as the unique relationship between the therapist and client. I believe that the therapeutic relationship is not only a necessary condition for psychological growth and change, but that it also consists of moments of real meeting which act as the therapy itself.
